Downtown Shopping
Reykjavik's main shopping street, Laugavegur, runs through the city centre. On Laugavegur, its side streets and on the neighboring street Skolavordustigur (leading up to Hallgrimskirkja church), you will find everything from designer labels to streetwear in addition to jewelry, arts and crafts, quirky souvenirs and unique Icelandic design products.
Flea market
On weekends, you will find the covered Kolaportid Flea Market by Reykjavik Harbour overflowing with bric-a-brac and Icelandic delicacies, such as fermented shark, dried fish, tons of liquorice and much more! Kolaportid is open Saturdays and Sundays 11am-5pm and is located at Tryggvagata 19.
General opening hours
Opening hours for downtown shops are generally 10am-6pm weekdays and 10am-4pm Saturdays (10am-5pm on the first Saturday of every month). Most shops are closed on Sundays.
However, supermarkets, bookstores and souvenir shops are generally open on Sundays and have longer opening hours. A 24hr supermarket, 10-11, is located on Austurstraeti.
Kringlan
Kringlan shopping centre, located just east of the city centre, has over 150 shops, restaurants and service outlets, including fashion wear, food stores and gifts. The shopping centre includes a multi-screen cinema, food court and "Adventure Land", a large supervised play area for children 3-9 years old. To get to Kringlan, take bus number S1, S3, S4 or S6 from Hlemmur or Laekjartorg bus stations. Kringlan opening hours: Mon-Wed 10am-6.30pm, Thu 10am-9pm, Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 10am-6pm and Sun 1pm-5pm.
Smaralind
Smaralind shopping centre is located in the geographical centre of the Reykjavik Capital Area. It has around 70 shops and other service outlets, including multi-national shopping chains, a variety of fashion stores, supermarkets, gift shops, a multi-screen cinema, several cafes and restaurants and "Our World", a large supervised play area for children from 2 years of age.
To get to Smaralind, take bus number S2 from Hlemmur bus station.
Smaralind opening hours: Mon-Wed and Fri 11am-7pm, Thu 11am-9pm, Sat 11am-6pm and Sun 1pm-6pm.
Fjordurinn in Hafnarfjordur town
Fjordurinn is a small shopping centre located in Hafnarfjordur town centre on Fjardargata 13-15. Bus S1 goes straight from Laekjartorg in Reykjavik city centre, to Hafnarfjordur town centre.
Fjordurinn opening hours: Mon-Thu 10am-6pm, Fri 10am-7pm, Sat 10am-4pm.
